If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy the ultimate couple’s retreat, Italy is a dream destination. With its enchanting countryside views, glistening coastline, and exquisite cuisine, every corner of this country simply seeps romance. You can take it slow with a mix of sightseeing, fine dining, and relaxation, or get your hearts pumping with some watersports or hiking expeditions – the choice is yours.
Whether you’re on a shoestring budget or ready to splurge, here are the top regions in Italy to consider for your romantic escape – complete with our top tips for the best holiday photos.
Tuscany
The rolling hills, rustic villas, and endless vineyards of Tuscany will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. If you can picture yourselves sipping a glass of Chianti at sunset, or strolling hand-in-hand through the charming streets of Florence, this is the place for you.
If you enjoy history, be sure to visit Florence’s Duomo, one of the largest Christian churches and a breathtaking example of Gothic architecture, or take in the incredible views from Piazza Michelangelo – set on a hill by the Arno River.

To unwind, we highly recommended a wine tasting tour in either Chianti or Montepulciano. Or, if drinking isn’t for you, head to the quaint town of Bagno Vignoni to soak in the natural thermal baths.
No trip to Tuscany would be complete without some insta-worthy snapshots – our favourite locations are the Val d’Orcia valley and Cypress Tree Lane, near San Quirico. The lush background of the valley and intimate setting of the tunnel of trees, with light seeping through in gentle beams, sets the scene for beautiful couples photos. Italy is truly gorgeous!

Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is a paradise for lovers, boasting colorful coastal cliffs and charming villages like Positano and Ravello. It’s a great spot for unwinding by the sea with a touch of luxury, and the infinity terrace of Villa Cimbrone in Ravello is the perfect spot to take some stunning photos, complete with roman statues and lush foliage overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Charter a boat to the tiny island of Capri and explore the caves of the Blue Grotto, hike the “Path of the Gods” for breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, or share a candlelit dinner with fresh seafood and limoncello. Positano is an iconic hot spot you’ll likely recognise from travel brochures, offering plenty of fine-dining options. The vibrant streets and pristine beaches make it a must-see, but it can be pricey, so be sure to also explore the smaller neighboring towns like Praiano for delicious Mediterranean food at a fraction of the cost.

Lake Como
Lake Como epitomizes elegance and tranquility. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and luxurious villas, it’s the ideal setting for a romantic retreat where you can truly drift away into a world of natural beauty and gorgeous sunshine.

Top activities for couples include taking a private boat ride across the lake, visiting the beautiful town of Bellagio, and relaxing at a lakeside villa spa. While Lake Como is known for luxury, there are smaller towns like Varenna or Menaggio that offer more affordable options nearby. For the best photo opportunities, head to the lake at sunset to catch the waters shimmering against vibrant hues of pink and orange in the sky.

Villa Balbianello’s immaculately manicured gardens are also a must-see – the 18th century mansion sits on a promenade over the lake, offering unmatched views and a serene atmosphere.
Where will you go?
Italy offers countless ways to make your romantic getaway unforgettable, and it’s sure to be a destination you’ll want to return to again and again. These are just three of the most romantic locations, but there are plenty more that offer a paradisiacal setting to enjoy some quality time and heartfelt moments with your loved one.
