In our latest Youtube video, we’re taking you behind the scenes on an engagement session with us! You’ll see us in action, using our Posing for Purpose method to lead our couple through poses, variations, and prompts for a super fun shoot! So tune in as we show you how to pose couples for an engagement session 🙂

Our Posing for Purpose Method

Posing for Purpose is a method that we’ve perfected over the years that allows us to give an amazing client experience while also providing gorgeous photos for our clients, plus it creates raving fans that allow them to shout about us from the rooftops! Our method consists of three parts – here are the basics of how to pose couples:

1. Poses

A pose is something stagnant and we have 6 core poses that we cycle between. Some examples are chest to chest, prom pose, backwards V, that kinda vibe! From there, we flow into variations.

2. Varations

After one pose, we flow into a variation which may be like 2-3. That could be their facial expressions or their arm position. There’s 6 categories of variations that we also use! From there, we flow into a prompt.

3. Prompts

From here, we may use 1-2 prompts. The prompts are the special sauce! Here’s an example: let’s say we start with the couple chest to chest. We would do a couple variations from there like one partner kissing the other on the cheek or gives them a nuzzle, or maybe they reposition their arms. Then we flow into a prompt. This is where we get a tiny bit of open ended room for the couple to embrace or interact in a way that they naturally would.

One prompt could be one partner whispers a vegetable in their partners ear in a British accent and the first to laugh loses! The important thing to remember is that we are not looking for every photo to be a deliverable photo. The deliverable photo comes when one person cracks up and then the other does and you get really genuine reactions and interactions with each other. We’re just looking for those moments of magic for our couples.

Behind the Scenes with Sarah & Logan

In this video, we’re going behind the scenes with Sarah & Logan at their engagement session. It is super inconic Minnesota vibes and you’ll get to see the first half of their shoot! You’ll see how we flow through poses, variations, and prompts, see where we’re standing, how we’re directing them, and so much more.

So, Here’s the Deal

If you are interested in our posing system and learning more on how to pose couples, because today we were just giving you a really broad overview and some tangible examples, we actually have a course that walks you through the entire Posing for Purpose method. It teaches you the entire method; how to deliver it, the hows and the whys of what we’re saying, how that’s directing the couple for more precise results, AND it has way more in-depth visual examples of every different type of session. The course has family sessions, senior sessions, couples sessions like this, and then we actually take you behind the scenes on wedding days showing you both couples portraits and wedding party portraits. It truly is jam-packed!

Our course is called Posing for Purpose and you can find more information about joining our other students HERE! We can’t wait to have you join us 🙂
