The day you say “I do” is one of the most special of your life. While you want each and every element to be perfect, choosing the right wedding music is especially important for a memorable wedding celebration.

Currently curating the ideal soundtrack for your big day? Here’s why the music you choose will play such a key role in your wedding.

It tells your story

This special day is all yours, so it’s crucial that you honour your personal tastes as a couple. Whether you opt to play old favourites that you enjoy together at home or perhaps treat your guests to some traditional, culturally significant songs, the music that you choose can go a long way in showing your guests exactly who you both are, and what music means to you in the wider context of your story.

To pull this off perfectly, you’ll want to focus on the songs that feel truly personal to you. Most love stories are deep, complex and beautiful, so you may want to choose songs that express this in a way that feels authentic to you.

It sets the scene

Every engaged couple wants their wedding to feel blissful and romantic. From the ceremony through to the evening reception, you want your guests to be happy and relaxed, and eager to have a good time. Luckily, such an atmosphere is easily achieved with the help of the right music.

It can be hard to consistently maintain a certain atmosphere throughout the entirety of your day – but you shouldn’t feel that you have to. While slow, gentle songs are ideal for setting the scene at your ceremony, upbeat tunes may work a little better when it comes to getting your guests dancing during the evening reception. Just make sure to give plenty of thought to the mood that you’re going for throughout each part of your day – while a live pianist or harpist makes for a peaceful and romantic ceremony, vibrant, energetic music will work better as the evening party gets started.

It doubles as entertainment

While there are lots of forms of entertainment to choose from, a live band is one of the most popular choices for a wedding celebration. Not only does this offer a unique experience to hear the music that you love performed live, it also gives your guests something to enjoy once the ceremony, cocktail hour and wedding breakfast have wrapped up. Plus, there are plenty of ways to have fun with this concept, from singing waiters to swinging jazz bands and unique acoustic performers.

Choosing music that doubles up as entertainment also makes the process of planning your wedding a whole lot easier. Just make sure to communicate with your chosen musicians prior to the big day, so they can get an idea of just how extravagant and performative – or how laid-back – you want the entertainment to be. Music really is key to fostering camaraderie amongst your guests, so it’s important to put plenty of planning and thought into your chosen entertainment.

Let music add something special to your day

Music is important to most people, so it only makes sense that it plays such a big part in weddings. When planning the music for your celebration, you’ll want to think about the ways that different songs and genres make you feel, and consider whether or not they’d add something to your special day. Above all, remember to choose the music that you love, for a celebration that’s personal, meaningful and bound to be remembered.
