HELLOOOOO it’s Tia! Today, we are troubleshooting 3 couples posing mistakes! Follow along with me out in the field with Mariah and Ben to see what tips I give them to turn these posing problems into stunning photos!

Troubleshooting Problem #1

Okay breaking down our first problem! Sometimes our couples shoulders can look a little robust, so a troubleshooting tip for this is what we call a shoulder tip.

In this example, I’ll place the couple in chest-to-chest. Mariah places her left arm around Ben’s neck and then places her right hand up on his chest. Ben keeps his arm closest to the camera in his pocket and wraps his back arm around Mariah’s waist. While they’re smiling straight at the camera, they look lovely! Some people may look a little more robust in their shoulder, so I’ll instruct them to do the shoulder tip.

I always tell them, “feel how your shoulders are flat right now, ever so slightly, tip them down towards me!” The difference is amazing!!! This angle is super flattering and looks so good. Sometimes, people will go crazy and tip alllllll the way down, which is okay! But that’s a great time to instruct them, “Ok 50% less than that, you’re so freaking good at that!!” to find that perfect angle.

Troubleshooting Problem #2

Second problem we’re troubleshooting is if the couple is kissing awkwardly. We actually teach all of our couples this on our shoots. But if they are kissing awkwardly, this is a perfect time to curb it with a rom com kiss!

To teach them the rom com kiss, I tell that that if they normally tip their head slightly when they kiss, we’re going to add some major drama. They are going to smile the whole way in to the kiss, keep smiling until they feel like their teeth are about to hit! Then you’re going to kiss, but that’s no big deal. Just the end product. After the kiss, lightly pull away about an inch, smiling, and linger there. SO DREAMY!

When they separate, they might separate a little too far, and that’s common! So I’ll have them do a round two and tell them to stay even closer this next time during the linger and show them with my hands exactly how close I want them to stay!

Troubleshooting Problem #3

Okay third and final problem that we’re troubleshooting is if there is a major height difference when nuzzling.

I have the couple wrap up in chest-to-chest again. A nuzzle looks like Ben placing his forehead gently on Mariah’s temple. However, if Ben is very tall, or much taller than Mariah, I have Ben instead nuzzle towards the top of her head instead of on her temple!

The reason for if there is a major height difference, is because I don’t want Ben to look like he’s hunched over trying to reach down towards her temple. It doesn’t look natural whatsoever. But if he rests his head towards the top of her head, that might be a much more natural position for both of them!
