Snow and Rain and Heat, oh my!

We love Minnesota! We love that we get all four seasons during the year, but we know. Minnesota weather is as bipolar as it gets and you never quite know what you’re going to get when you walk outside, no matter how many times you checked the forecast. So here are our tips for embracing mother nature during a photo session.

Check the Forecast Ahead of Time

Okay, so we know we just said Minnesota is bipolar, but it’s still good to be as prepared as possible, so check! Know about how hot or cold it will be or if there’s a chance of rain or snow. This way you can do your absolutely best to have everything you might need.

For Rain

We always bring with us two cute clear umbrellas for engagement shoots. However, if you’re planning for rain on your wedding day, Amazon Prime has clear umbrellas for the whole bridal party (one for each couple, so if you have 16 total – 8 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen, get just a set of 8)! There’s no harm in being prepared, plus another bride that’s prepping for rain would definitely buy them from you. Realize that your hair might get wet and blown around – that’s okay, it adds a dramatic and romantic vibe. 🙂 Also be sure to layer on waterproof mascara, a solid setting spray for your face makeup, and check that your clothes won’t be see-through if they get wet!

For Snow

Stock up on heat warmers in your boots and pockets, they will save your fingers and toes, we promise! Bring a cute jacket for one outfit along with some cute mittens, scarves and maybe a hat to add some coziness. Grab a pack of Kleenex for any sniffles too. Most importantly, always be prepared to snuggle real close to keep warm!

Run With The Punches

Some days you are ready to go with an e-session and then the radar says something different, but that doesn’t mean that you have to call it quits. Instead, work with it! We have been so lucky to work with amazing couples who are always ready to run with the punches. We’ve had couples get their feet dirty, run through the rain, and take on any challenge and turn it into an adventure. And the best part, the end result still looks amazing!!! Mother nature may be unpredictable sometimes, but she is always beautiful and will an awesome element to your photos!

In the end, we can’t control the weather but we can control how we prep for it and handle it. No matter what, come prepared and if something happens, be flexible and use it to your advantage. Create amarvelous and hilarious memory!
