I am so excited to be writing this guest blog for Cameron & Tia for the Wedding Planning Series!
I have been doing makeup for about three years now but 2017 was my first “official” bridal season. Getting to know the ins and outs of the bridal industry has been amazing.
One question I frequently get is ‘when should I book my makeup artist and schedule my trial?’
ASAP. But seriously, as soon as you know the artist you want to work with for your wedding day, sign the contract, pay the deposit, whatever you need to do to secure your date! Most of my brides are booking me 10-12 months out. Now, some of you may think; why so far out? I’ve found that more and more brides are planning their wedding vendors and details about a year or more out now, It helps with securing cheaper pricing (some vendors) and also making sure you get the vendor you want!
Now that’s not to say that you can’t go “shopping” for makeup artists and do a few different trials. You want to make sure your makeup artist is going to give you the look you want and you love their style! This is the biggest day of your life, you want to look and feel amazing!!
Another question I get is, ‘how can I prepare for my trial?’
The best thing to do for your trial is take good care of your skin! It all starts with skincare. Makeup can only sit nicely on the skin if your skin is a smooth canvas for your makeup. Drinking plenty of water. Also, washing your face regularly and a well-balanced diet are all key parts of this!
Also, come to your trial with inspiration pictures! Go to your makeup artist’s website, Instagram, or Facebook and find looks they have done before that you like. Now Pinterest can be a great place to look for inspiration on makeup looks but, please keep in mind that your makeup artist can create a similar look but never the exact look. Your artist will have to take your eye shape, face shape, skin type, skin tone, and eyelid space into consideration when creating your look. We as makeup artists are trying to create a look that fits you and your features well.
I hope these tips and tricks help you when booking an artist for your big day!
