On our way from Oslo to Florence, we had a 5 hour layover in Zurich, Switzerland so we decided to take a risk and explore Zurich while we had the chance. Follow along to see this gorgeous city with us – and if we make it back to the airport in time!

Intro

If you saw our last vlog, we were in Oslo, Norway! On our way from Oslo to Florence, we had a 5 hour layover in Zurich so we decided to go explore a city we’ve never been to!

We’ve been tempted to do this before when we’ve been to Europe.

We’re so pumped about Switzerland that we already know that we want to come back, so we wanted to get a little taste by hopping out of the airport and exploring while we’re here!

We were tempted to do this when we came back from our Italy honeymoon in Paris but the layover was too short. It was also our first time in Europe. Our second time in Europe, we had a layover in Germany. We could have extended our layover to go out and explore but it just felt too tight so we didn’t.

Now, we have 5 hours and 20 minutes from touchdown to take off. Cam found an article on Scott’s Cheap Flights, which has tons of articles about quick layovers! We’re following it to a tee – transport in, get a taste for the city, try some Swiss chocolate, and just check it out!

We also checked our two biggest bags, so we’ll just have our two backpacks when we get to Zurich which will make things easier!

Good Morning from Oslo! Headed to Zurich!

We packed up everything at our Airbnb, walked to the train station, and from there to the airport!

We made it through our check in and, eventually, through security. In our new course, we have a bonus that is how to shoot destination weddings. We talk about flying with our gear and everything like that. We have Precheck in the U.S. so we never have to take our gear our but internationally, every once in a while they will have you take out everything. This time, we didn’t have to take out every lense, but they did ask us to take out our bodies. Which, we’re shooting a wedding so we have all of our bodies and backups, plus two laptops, and a vlogging camera – so it was tough. But we made it through, on to Zurich!

Landing in Zurich!

We landed in Zurich just before noon and headed straight out of the airport. For some reason, we didn’t have to go through customs. We definitely thought we were going to, so that saved us a ton of time!

We walked out of the airport and bought our train tickets 11 minutes and 44 seconds since deplaning. So crazy to think about how different that is from traveling in the U.S.!

The purpose of this test was not to speed walk or walk at hurried pace, it was definitely a chill pace so it’s realistic!

28 minutes from deplaning and we’re getting off the train into Zurich!

Exploring Zurich, Switzerland!

Right when we got off the train, we grabbed lunch at the Street Food Park inside the train station! It was super cool to have all of these food options right when you get off the train. After lunch, we walked out of the train station and were immediately struck by the beauty of Zurich. Like WOW!

After walking around for a little while, we both agreed – we love Switzerland! So beautiful, and so worth it!

Scott’s Cheap Flights brought us to a church that is also a chocolatier, but unfortunately it was closed. So we were off to find another chocolatier in Zurich! We finally found one called Dieter Meier Oro de Cacao, and wow. It came in this gorgeous little box with four chocolates, and they were SO GOOD. I understand the hype about Swiss chocolate.

Making Our Way Back!

After a little over two hours of exploring Zurich, we made our way back to the train station. Our thoughts on Zurich – it was perfect, we got a meal and chocolate and we got to chill and really get the vibe of Zurich and it was definitely worth it!

We made it back to the airport at 3 o’clock and our flight took off at 5 so we made it back with plenty of time! We made it through the airport despite being a little confusing and meandered around the airport for a little bit before finding our gate.

Overall, we had such a successful 5 hour layover in Zurich! If you had even two and a half hours, it would definitely be doable to leave the airport and explore! It might be stressful, but definitely doable.

We cannot wait to come back to Switzerland soon, we absolutely loved it! We also need more chocolate ASAP!
