I’m not gonna lie, it’s not always easy to capture the beauty of a ring. But don’t worry, I got you. Here are our five tips for taking the ring shots to the next level.

Our Five Tips to Take Ring Shots to the Next Level

Number one: Always focus on the prongs, not the stones. It may seem backwards, but when you photograph the center stone, it makes the prongs out of focus and the whole ring looks blurry.

Number two: Pay attention to planes when choosing what to focus on. Make sure you’re hitting the stone flat as much as possible so you can highlight its size, sparkle, or cut.

Number three: To make your shots pop, focus on both the close foreground and the background.

Number four: Beware of reflections, especially when photographing a trio of rings. Pay attention to how you can get yourself out of the reflection.

And finally, number five: If you’re struggling to position tricky-sized rings, use braces wax to keep them in place.

The three main arrangements we use to photograph the details of the ring: the up and down stack, laying all three on top of each other, and laying them next to each other. In my behind-the-scenes video, I’ll show you all three arrangements in action.
