Hey there, friend! I’m so excited to talk to you about one of my favorite topics: freeze motion photography! In this video, we’re going to be exploring how to photograph crazy prompts that will make your photos stand out from the crowd.

Now, if you’ve ever seen our work before, you know that we love to get a little bit crazy with our prompts. We have our clients twirling each other around, lifting each other up, and just generally having a great time. And let me tell you, the most common question we get asked is how the heck do we capture all that motion?

Well, fear not my friend, because we’re going to be breaking it all down for you today. We’re going to be talking about the settings we use to capture motion, how we keep our subjects in focus, and how we’re able to get those awesome, tack-sharp photos that we’re known for.

Okay, Let’s Dive into the Nitty Gritty Deets

First things first, let’s talk about autofocus. We shoot with the Canon R5, and let me tell you, this camera is a gamechanger. Whenever we can, we use face tracking with eye detection. This feature allows the camera to track our subjects side to side, forward and backwards, and even follow them around if they’re facing us with an eye towards the camera. It’s seriously mind-blowing. If you don’t have an R5 or R6 yet, I highly recommend getting your hands on one!

If we’re not using the face tracking feature, we’ll typically use one point RF. This allows us to get great framing and ensures that our photos are as sharp as possible.

Next up, we always shoot with AI servo mode. This mode allows the camera to continuously focus as our clients move, which is crucial when capturing motion. We also use back button focus, which means we’re able to control when we’re focusing rather than simply relying on the camera to focus every time the shutter is pressed. It gives us more control and feels more responsive overall.

When shooting crazy motion, we always make sure our shutter speed is at least 1/400. This allows us to freeze the motion and get those awesome, tack-sharp photos we’re known for.

And that’s it, folks! Those are the settings we use to capture crazy motion in our photos. But let me tell you, it’s not just about the settings. It’s also about setting up the prompt, directing your clients, and building trust so they feel comfortable doing those crazy poses. If you want to learn more about all of that, check out our signature course, Posing for Purpose. We’ll teach you everything you need to know to capture those wild, awesome shots.

Well, that’s it from me for now. I hope you found this video helpful and fun. If you liked it, be sure to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more photography tips and tricks. Until next time, keep on shooting and go out and photograph crazy prompts!
