How to Absolutely LOVE
Your Senior Experience

One thing is for sure, we had such a different senior experience than what we try to deliver. Cam’s was DIY. As in, he set up the scene, handed his camera to his mom, and told her when to take the photo. Tia’s was professional, but less than personal. She was put on the spot to come up with poses, and c’mon. Awkward 17-year-old already stressed about her senior session? Those poses weren’t the best.

So now, we have set out to create the most relaxed, FUN experience for our seniors. We love to get to know you and do whatever it takes to get the real you coming through the lens. It’s all depending on the person, but sometimes it means dancing behind the camera, cracking corny jokes, or just relaxing and giving you a chill experience. We will do whatever is needed to give you the best experience. There are a few things that you can do to make your experience rock too!

One important thing to start thinking about is who will accompany you on your shoot. We have had all kinds of family, friends, extended family, and more friends come with our seniors on their shoots, but want to know a secret? Oftentimes, the most relaxed, genuine senior sessions are those in which the senior goes by themselves. Why? No matter how close they are with the friends and family that come along with them, it almost always increases the pressure. There are expectations of those watching and those make the senior feel as though they are just being watched like a monkey in a zoo. There is then less connection between us and the senior, less room to play, and less relaxation which produces genuine, awesome images. We know that this may not be something for everyone. Some seniors may need family or friends to come along. But it is absolutely something to consider carefully.

We started our company in the southwest metro and as many of you know, it’s home to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. It’s gorgeous, it has so many photo opts, and above all, it’s super convenient for many. And while we love the location, we have shot about 50 seniors there. If it’s 100% your jam, do it. But we want people to know that any location will have some golden light and soft shadows. But the best locations are those that are personal or unique to you. It may be your grandparent’s farm, or your favorite hangout spot, or somewhere you’ve never been but are dying to check it out. These will radiate you, and you will end up loving them even more.

Come prepared! You can arrive in your first outfit. Think about little details like having manicured nails and the right colored socks to help ease stress. Consider setting out your outfits the night before to make sure you have every accessory you want photographed ready. Make sure to try on outfits with the applicable undergarments. Put shoes, undergarments, and accessories in a big bag so that we can transport them around with us. Be prepared to change in odd places or oftentimes, your car. Don't worry, we will stand guard.

It's more than okay to feel nervous. Please know that we do not expect you to be a model. Our job is to direct you in a way that helps you relax, feel natural, and be true to your comfortable selves in front of our lens. You do not need to practice poses, study Pinterest pins, or let the nerves take over. By the end of the session, you will be relaxed and most of all, having fun!
